Call for Papers: New Directions in Mary McCarthy Scholarship
The Mary McCarthy Society will sponsor a panel at the American Literature Association Annual Convention in Boston, MA, May 21-24, 2025.
With the forthcoming UK reedition of Memories of a Catholic Girlhood with a new introduction by Colm Tóibín; Ronnie Grinberg’s reconsideration of Mary McCarthy in light of Jewish masculinity and the New York intellectuals in her recent book, Write Like a Man: Jewish Masculinity and the New York Intellectuals; and Sabrina Fuchs Abrams’ discussion of Mary McCarthy as a female satirist in New York Women of Wit in the Twentieth Century, this panel will look at new directions in Mary McCarthy scholarship. These include but are not limited to Mary McCarthy and Irish and/or Jewish identity; Mary McCarthy as a public intellectual; Mary McCarthy and feminism/gender studies; Mary McCarthy and satire/humor.
